RE;CODE launches a collaborative collection with fashion designer Jiyong Kim

Using color changes caused by exposure to sunlight…the collection presents unique patterns and designs

RE;CODE, an upcycling fashion brand of the KOLON Industries FnC Organization (KOLON FnC), unveils menswear in collaboration with emerging designer Jiyong Kim.

Jiyong Kim is a fashion designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins, one of the world's top three fashion schools. Kim has drawn attention with his collection that incorporates unique patterns generated by exposing discarded fabrics to natural light to raise awareness about clothing waste. RE;CODE, which creates collections by dismantling KOLON FnC's leftover inventory, teamed up with Jiyong Kim, who shares the same goal of sustainable fashion.

This collaborative collection consists of five items including a hybrid zip-up hoodie, jacket, and blouson. The products were designed using KOLON FnC's unsold products and unused fabrics. The finished products were put on mannequins and exposed to natural light for two months. A kind of fading occurs when a fabric is exposed to intense sunlight, and Jiyong Kim created tie-dye-like patterns using strings. Using various leftover items ranging from sweatshirts to safari jackets and suit jackets, the collection suggests a new vintage look that has not been seen in RE;CODE before.

“RE;CODE provides a solution for fashion deadstock. Through this collaboration, we were able to see that there are various and unique ways to achieve sustainable fashion,” said Ha Byeong-cheol, brand manager of RE;CODE. "RE;CODE will continue to strive to become an upcycling fashion brand that can inspire many designers."

The RE;CODE X Jiyong Kim collection is available at the RE;CODE store in Series Corner located in Hannam-dong as well as KOLON MALL (www.kolonmall.com).
