  • Introducing a design with the motif of the endangered species 'Cotoneaster wilsonii Nakai'
  • Going green by using recycled materials as well as sustainable manufacturing and dyeing methods

KOLON SPORT, an outdoor brand of the KOLON Industries FnC Organization (KOLON FnC), has unveiled the eighth NOAH Project for the 21SS season.

The NOAH Project is an ongoing campaign since 2016 to protect endangered animals and plants in Korea. The project has released a capsule collection every season by selecting one type of animal or plant and donated a portion of the proceeds. Since last year, all products of the NOAH Project have been using eco-friendly materials, techniques, and dye.

This season, the NOAH Project focuses on promoting "Cotoneaster wilsonii Nakai." Cotoneaster wilsonii Nakai is an endangered species endemic to Ulleung Island, Korea, and designated as Natural Monument No. 51. KOLON SPORT designed a flower pattern inspired by the flower of Cotoneaster wilsonii Nakai for the capsule collection of the NOAH Project this time.

The 21SS NOAH Project consists of a total of 34 styles, including raincoats, jumpsuits, and bandanas. Most notably, the Cotoneaster wilsonii Nakai flower pattern was dyed with digital textile printing (DTP, a dyeing method using printing without dyeing the fabric) to reduce wastewater and carbon emissions. In addition to using polyester materials from recycled plastic bottles, KOLON NYLON, made by reprocessing consumer waste such as fishing nets and textile waste, was also incorporated into the NOAH Project collection.

For the 21SS NOAH Project, KOLON SPORT also had a photoshoot with Yun Yeji, an illustrator who touches on environmental issues with pictures; Shin Jihye, who wrote an essay on sustainable lifestyles; and Padosikmul, a creative group utilizing plants.

“KOLON SPORT's NOAH Project puts the environment first from the beginning to the end of clothes manufacturing, and we have carefully and fiercely thought about how to create a more beneficial effect on the environment in all processes," said Park Seong-cheol, brand manager at KOLON SPORT. "This collection will be a satisfactory choice for both environmentally conscious customers and customers who want to enjoy outdoor activities to the fullest."

Meanwhile, KOLON SPORT plans to donate part of the sales proceeds from the 21SS NOAH Project collection to Sejong National Arboretum to support the conservation of rare plants.
